Fall Fashion 2025 -Part 2
Diane Pollack
Last time, I gave you a nice overview of the fall trends. If you didn't read it, you may want to check it out first. What's in for Fall 2025?
For my new readers, I have to let you know my philosophy: "trends are suggestions and not mandates”, so take what you like and leave the rest.
TOPS
Classic shirtings continue, and there are so many updated ways to wear them. They can be worn by themselves or as a layering piece. Long-sleeve tees and Henleys are great casual staples. Blouses have boho-styled ruffles. Peplums are in, or try a belt over a long plain top or sweater for a fresh look that highlights your waist.
SWEATERS
For sweaters, you have options from fitted to oversized, cropped to long, pullover or cardigan. Cardigan can be worn classically as an outer layer, or the cool girl way: by itself. Sweater vests continue. Peplums also look great in sweaters. Just like pants, barrel sleeve sweaters are also trending. Add some embellishment, like rhinestones, to your sweaters for an elevated casual look, perfect for the holidays.
PANTS
There are so many options for pants these days. Barrels continue, and flares are hot. Update your denim wardrobe with a cuffed jean. The new way to wear leggings is stirrup style. You also still have options of cropped, ankle, or full-length, as well as the newer capri and culotte styles. Denim and leather fabrics are true staples here.
SKIRTS
For skirts, you have a variety of lengths from a mini to a knee-length pencil (always a classic!) to a midi or maxi, so choose your favorite. And if you want to go back to a '90s style, try a bubble hem or go back even further for a retro full skirt.
JACKETS & OUTERWEAR
The funnel neck continues, as do collarless coats and blazers. Fur, fur everywhere, from a full coat to luxe trim. Tailored styles are classic, and bold shoulders make a statement. Barrel sleeves are now popular in coats, too. If you like a classic or updated cape, those are in too.
SHOES
Suede, fur, snakeskin, and crocodile materials will also be important for shoes. And as mentioned, you may want to update your sneakers for a suede pair, especially in brown or beige. The new style for sneakers, by the way, is much slimmer and retro-inspired.
Peep toes are around for a second season. I find them best for the transitional weather before we get into true boot season. Another great transitional shoe is the flat mule slipper. And clogs are still around for an alternate version. The Mary Jane continues, mostly as a flat and also in heeled versions.
Loafers continue. The lug sole is still in for a more casualized look, and the slim classic is also a great look.
All your boots are great, whether they be ankle, knee-high, or over-the-knee. Square or pointed toe. Edgy like a moto boot or classic like a riding boot.
BAGS
Belted bags and croc textures look luxe. The East-West style continues, and fur adds both a fun and luxurious look to your bags. Many other styles continue, so don't get rid of your old favorites.
ACCESSORIES
The "intrecciato" woven look inspired by Bottega Veneta still continues in bags, some shoes, and other accessories and clothing. Belts made a comeback last year, and they continue; all versions look great.
They say the brooch is back. I have seen this before, and it never really made it back to mainstream. If you love a brooch, then you are trending! And if you're also into other vintage jewelry like pearls, locket necklaces, and charm jewelry, they are back too. On the edgier side, studded accessories and cuff bracelets are in.
Bare legs were in for a while, which I always found challenging in cold weather. Now you can go for colored tights, like burgundy, or tights with some fun texture and pattern for a true maximalist look.
COLOR
I recently heard the term "recession red." It is both classic and bold when times seem uncertain.
Oxblood continues, it always looks rich and dips a toe into color while remaining neutral.
The newest color this season is grape. Greens continue, from pickles/avocado to olives (another great color/neutral).
And jewel tones are always pretty this time of year.
Brown, brown, brown, as well as other earthtones, which style well together, creating an easy monotone outfit that looks really sophisticated.
PRINTS
The polka dot never dies and always has a really popular resurgence. The same can be said for leopard, and now other animal patterns like cow are popular too.
FABRICS
Beyond the suede, you will find comforting and cozy fabrics, including furs (and faux furs), as well as lots of rich, dark-colored denim that is either raw or has that raw, rich look. This is more elevated denim and great for a "dressed-up denim outfit."
