Whats Trending for Fall?

Diane Pollack

Sitting outside on Labor Day weekend, flipping through my fashion magazines, I could feel a change in the air. I was in the Catskills and just like that, Mother Nature seemed to know, and the temperature dipped into the 50’s in the evening.

After Labor Day always signifies a second opportunity for a fresh start or a second New Year (which it actually is, if you are Jewish). For some, it is back to school for the kids, and this year it is a variety of options, from continuing to work from home to a hybrid office, or totally back to work.

Whatever your situation may be, it is the opportunity to refresh your wardrobe.

I think as a stylist, it is my job to inform you of what is currently trending for the season. This certainly doesn't mean you have to buy it all, some of it, or any of it. Because, as I say every season...

Trends are suggestions and not mandates.

With that, I have the top 21 Trends for Fall 2021. Just so that you are in the know.

  1. Clogs

  2. Cutouts

  3. Lilac

  4. Patchwork

  5. Quilted Jackets

  6. Preppy - from sweater vests to polo collared shirts

  7. Relaxed tailoring for both blazers and trousers

  8. The Apres Ski Look including Fair Isle sweaters

  9. Sweater sets - this can be the update to the old twin set (cami & cardi) or a matching top with either a skirt or a pant.

  10. Folklore, Craftsy and DIY looks

  11. Tall boots

  12. Tailored leather

  13. Puffer jackets

  14. Y2k is back - although frankly, I think there are always so many things trending from other decades such as the '70s, '80s and ‘90s

  15. Sherling accessories

  16. Lug sole boots

  17. Sheer fabrics

  18. The utilitarian look

  19. Oversized bags

  20. Sequins

  21. Lounge sets

How can you personalize these items to your personal style and needs? Or maybe you just need to purge your closet to make room for new, fresher pieces or items that are more relevant to your current lifestyle. Enlist an expert for help here :)
