What Will You Toss?

What Will You Toss?

Diane Pollack

You don't need to store away  EVERYTHING

Although the weather will probably still be warm for a while, once it is after labor day, I still get that "back to school" mentality. The change of seasons, cool breeze in the air, makes it time to start thinking about what type of items to infuse in your fall wardrobe. Think of this change of seasons like a fresh start, similar to new years.

In stead of just stashing away everything till next spring, make room now instead of creating more projects to weed through next year.  Make it easy for yourself, don't do extra work and waste valuable space!

Here are some items, you can get rid of now.

Summer is a time for white tee shirts and tanks, these can tend to grey out over time and get yellowish underarm stains. If these are not looking fresh and bright anymore, it is time to replace them.

Bathing suit elastic will loose its elasticity over time and start to crack. This becomes a saggy and ill-fitting suit. Sorry, it might be time to toss your favorite suit.

Shoes can be polished and resoled, but sometimes they pass the mark of being able to be refreshed. They may have holes, loose straps or permanent scratch marks. When they are too beaten up, it's time to say good-bye.

Always get rid of items that are soiled, torn, piling, stretched out or just have an overall over-worn look.

Was it hanging in your closet and you didn't wear it? Time to assess why. Did you wear it and didn't feel great in it?  Perhaps it is time to get rid of it.  On the fence, sometime it is OK to put an item away for the season and re-look at it when you pull it out again.

Over the  trend? It just doesn't look new or updated anymore. You have seen too many people who aren't even stylish wearing it - say "Bye- Bye."

Stylist tip: Some of these items you may be able to find on sale now. For the rest, create a list of what you are getting rid of this year that you want to replace next year. Stash it away with your summer wardrobe so you can easily remember when you need them.

Wow - now you won't feel so bad when you go out to purchase new fun stuff to replace the old and tired.

What did you toss this season & how did you feel about it? I would love to hear from you.
