Recently I was featured in an article on The LIST about clothing hacks to flatter your figure. I wanted to share it with you, along with some of the great things the other experts had to add.
And then I thought I would expand upon it and make an entire insider newsletter about it. So here you are, hope you find some useful tidbits.
When your eye sees large expanses of fabric it says "large". Color blocks in any direction, seamingand vertical panels will trick your eye by breaking up large areas, into smaller sections and hence you look smaller.
This can also be achieved by accessories such as jewelry, belts and scarves breaking up large expanses of fabric.
Scoop necks and V-necks break up a large chest area with skin. Turtlenecks will elongate your chest and are great for smaller chested women.
Boatnecks are good for narrow shoulders and wide hips, as it will even out your proportions. The same is true for flared / bootleg pants as they will balance out wide hips (and they are trending NOW!)
Shoes that match pants, are skin colored, low cut toes, or cut out sides, will elongate legs.
Wrap dresses, loose, untucked, drapey tops will all help to hide a tummy.
Your body portions play into what will look good on you too. If you have a long torso - wear empire or cropped jacket. The opposite is true for a short torso - wear drop waist or tunic and your belt below your waist.
I know that you are probably not thinking about your summer wardrobe, maybe just making-do with what you have. Actually, this is a great time for a self-assessment. What haven't you worn yet and why? Try to wear it or consider getting rid of it.
I have created some summer looks that I hope will give you inspiration for new ideas with your wardrobe. Bonus styling tips for each.

Working Girl
Stylist Tip - Outfit 1 - picking up the red accent in the shoe, makes the look cohesive without being too matchy-matchy like a totally red shoe would do. Stylist Tip - Outfit 2 - although mixed metals have no longer become a faux pas, when wearing many accessories, especially when they are near each other (or when they are big & bold) keeping the same metals makes for a polished and sophisticated look.
Creative Professional
Stylist Tip - Outfit 1 - Start from the print. Keep it clean and don't compete with the focal piece. Stylist Tip - Outfit 2 - keep the accessories in the same bohemian vibe as the key pieces.
Shopping in a store or on-line, may seem like an overwhelming project for you, after all, the options are endless! For me, it is like being a kid in a candy store. Let me take that burden off your shoulders and help you create beautifully curated outfits (either from your closet, in stores or on-line) that fit your personal style and make you feel so confident.
Casual Friday
Stylist Tip - Outfit 1 - Keep your super casual outfits more polished for the office. You can sub in a white tee for a more weekend look. Stylist Tip - Outfit 2 - A pop of color in the accessories adds some fun to a neutral outfit.
Summer Weekender
Stylist Tip - Outfit 1 - Pull out colors from the print. Using different colors for the shoe and the bag makes it look more naturally styled and not overly international. Stylist Tip - Outfit 2 - Accessories are key. Add a hat to shade yourself and for added style.
You may not see your personal style in these outfits. These are just examples of how to craft a well-styled outfit. Personal style is not a one size-size-fits-all. That is why my tag line is "Style For Your Lifestyle".

I know you don't want to think about the summer being over yet, but sadly, it almost is. Don't be in the style rut you were last season. Now is the time to take action and look and feel your best for fall.
Because I know you are not ready for it and don't want to think about it yet, I have a very tempting offer for you.
Anyone who purchases a package between now and the end of this month, will get 30% off of regular pricing!
Every year on my birthday I receive a card in the mail from Banana Republic, to be used for $15 off my purchase. Now we all know that stores intend for us to spend more money and it usually benefits them to give us that little bit of money to start us off.
Do you hate bathing suit shopping? Bathing suit shopping is not fun for many women. Most of us have our body image issues and as we age they may become worse. I wish I had the magic fix, sorry I don't.
This time of year we often get invited to more weddings than usual. And one of the first questions is what to wear? Here are some general tips and guidelines that may be helpful.
OMG 80 degrees yesterday, Spring has officially sprung!
As always, I like to update you on what the new trends of the season are, so you can be informed, which if any, you would like to add to your wardrobe.
How do you know when a trend has gone out of style?
I once gave a live webinar where someone asked me this question. Although I think I gave a pretty decent answer on the spot, it made me really think about it some more after.
Do you love to shop, but frankly you are not that good at it?
Maybe you pick up a piece here because you are "in the mood" and another there because it is on super-sale. There is no rhyme, reason or intention for your purchases and you don't even know what will work with your wardrobe.
If you are anything like my client Faith, you have a closet full of clothes, bags and accessories in every color that can mix and match into great outfits, but you don't really know how to put it all together. HELP!!!
It is a simple way to make your outfits more stylized. Use the 3 piece rule when you have a basic top and basic bottom. If you have a basic dress, it will become the 2 piece rule. This rule does not apply to ornate, highly designed items.
You can never have too much closet space, am I right?
Especially in NYC, we just don't have the kind of space that our suburban friends have.
What to do? Well yes, first, I am going to recommend getting rid of all the clutter you don't need, but that is a whole other newsletter. Here I am going to tell you the best ways to physically organize your closet to best utilize the space and see everything you have. (And note to suburban friends you should still do this too.)
Although the weather will probably still be warm for a while, once it is after labor day, I still get that "back to school" mentality. The change of seasons, cool breeze in the air, makes it time to start thinking about what type of items to infuse in your fall wardrobe. Think of this change of seasons like a fresh start, similar to new years.
Shopping is a sport for me. I love to find extra markdowns and get the best price. Last month I bought a denim skirt at Banana Republic, originally $76 and I paid $4.20. This is not the first time I have found great deals either.
As the summer continues, I have been noticing more and more that women often automatically put everything back to black as a go-to color that supposedly "goes with everything."
Although this isn't on the official "fashion don't list", I am here to tell you that there are better choices which will instantly make your outfit look more cohesive and stylized.
1) Try out some fun clothing. Maybe a trend or two. Summer clothing is generally a smaller investment than winter clothing. Think a fun tank or dress is less expensive than a winter coat.

Once again, I am the featured speaker of the month on a program called “Coffee Break With Sabra”, which hosts monthly interviews with various professionals on its website platform. So check it out!
